Introducing F1 Power Rankings!

Welcome to the introduction and weekly review of F1 Power Rankings. We now have two F1 GP in the books and a week of competition done, so it’s time to introduce another fun simple statistic that I came up with to rank our F1 drivers (it can be used for any series really). So let me explain how it’s calculated…

Power Ranking is calculated in five steps (see examples below):
1. Race finish position divided by number of drivers.
2. Multiply the result of step (1) by 100 and then subtract 100. The number is rounded up to the nearest thousandths.
3. Qualifying position divided by number of drivers.
4. Multiply the result of step (3) by 50 and then subtract 50. The number is rounded up to the nearest thousandths.
5. Sum the two results and divide by the number of total F1 GP in a season.

That’s it, in the end result you will get negative numbers but they are easily changed back to positive, mostly because it looks better, has no effect on the end result I just prefer to present the highest positive number instead of a negative one if that makes sense.

So yea, this is really a basic stat, it does not use any weights like wF1P, so it considers all cars and drivers equal. And that’s how it was designed to work. No one single stat is perfect in evaluating performance, so as usual take this with a grain of salt please.

PR = Power Rating
