Exclusive Interview: Zak Wonyoung — Chasing the F1 Dream
Interviewer: Hello, Zak! Congratulations on your remarkable achievements last season—particularly finishing third in the F4 British Series standings and securing your first series trophy. How does it feel to reach this milestone after three seasons of competing across various national Formula 4 championships?
Zak Wonyoung: "Hello! Thank you very much. It feels absolutely amazing and comes with a great sense of relief. Standing on the championship podium and bringing home a trophy from the F4 British Series is the result of a full year of hard work by the team. The competition in the UK is incredibly fierce, so this result gives us extra motivation to tackle the bigger challenges ahead."
Interviewer: You’ve experienced racing in various environments across different countries—from F4 Hungary and two seasons in F4 China to F4 UK. Of all these cross-continental adventures, what valuable experiences have most shaped your racing style so far?
Zak Wonyoung: "Every series has its own unique character. In Hungary, I learned a lot about cornering techniques on tight, technical circuits. In China, I learned to adapt to rapidly changing track dynamics and the crucial skill of tire management. Meanwhile, in the UK, the racing was incredibly aggressive, with wheel-to-wheel battles on every lap. Through all of that, I learned never to give up easily and how to read an opponent's strategy in a split second."
Interviewer: Now, you are preparing to face a new international challenge by competing in the Formula 4 International Series for the 67th Season. What are your specific goals for this season?
Zak Wonyoung: "The main goal is clear: to perform consistently in every race and contend for the overall championship title. The level of competition in the International Series will be much higher, as it brings together the best drivers from various regions. My team and I are focused on accumulating points in every round, minimizing mistakes, and, of course, aiming for victory after victory."
Interviewer: Every motorsport fan knows that the ultimate dream for an open-wheel driver is Formula 1. At 22 years old, how determined are you to break into the F1 grid in the future?
Zak Wonyoung: "F1 has been my absolute dream since the moment I first drove a race car. The road ahead is still long and full of challenges—from F3 and F2 to securing the necessary super license points. But I’m not daunted. Every step I take in this F4 International Series serves as a crucial foundation. I want to prove that Indonesian drivers possess the speed and capability to compete at the highest level of global motorsport."
Interviewer: Finally, what message would you like to share with your loyal supporters in Indonesia who are following your career progress on MyRacingCareer?
Zak Wonyoung: "Thank you so much for the incredible support you’ve always shown me, whether I’m standing on the podium or facing a tough race. Support from back home is the fuel that drives me in the cockpit. Keep supporting me, and I promise to fly the Red and White flag even higher on the international stage!"
Interviewer: See you in Grid, Good Luck!!!
Zak Wonyoung: "Thanks, You're Welcome "
