Nations Cup: Do We Have a Title Fight on Our Hands?
There were a couple of seasons in the past when I felt Spain had the stronger driver lineup and could have beaten Slovenia, or at least mounted a much stronger challenge. This season, however, they have taken another step forward and are looking stronger than ever. The gap at the top is small, and it will be interesting to see whether they can maintain this level of performance throughout the entire season.
The good news is that we are still very much in the fight. There is a long way to go, and consistency will be just as important as outright pace. A lot can happen over the course of a season, and championships are rarely decided this early.
One thing is certain, if both teams continue at their current level, we could be in for one of the most competitive title battles in recent memory.
From our perspective, this may be the last realistic opportunity to win the title for some time. Brick’s sudden and unexpected departure from the game created a major hole in our U25 lineup and left us scrambling to adjust.
Going into the season, I felt that with just one competitive U25 driver we would still have a chance to fight for the championship. Without one, the challenge becomes significantly more difficult, if not near impossible. That is why this season feels so important. Even if we are a man down, we still have the experience and quality to compete at the front, but we are also aware that our window is closing fast. If we fail to retain the title this season, we will likely need several seasons to rebuild before we can seriously challenge again.
